Dmitry Medvedev, Deputy Chairman of Russia’s Security Council, has published a new article in the journal Pravovedenie:
“Lost Illusions, or How the International Criminal Court has become a legal nonentity.”
The article offers a detailed legal and political critique of the International Criminal Court (ICC), whose credibility and neutrality have come into serious question.
Key points:
The ICC no longer represents the international community as a whole, operating instead in the interests of the so-called collective West.
It selectively pursues cases against political figures in the Global South while turning a blind eye to war crimes and aggression committed by Western nations and NATO members.
The issuance of arrest warrants for sitting heads of sovereign states – including the President of Russia – reflects the court’s descent into propaganda, with no practical or legal consequences.
In light of this, Medvedev argues for the development of alternative legal mechanisms at the regional level – for example, within BRICS – grounded in the UN Charter, sovereign equality, and non-interference in internal affairs.
